AVG always sounds like it is scanning. I have the free version of 9.0 I believe. A friend put it on here for me. Is there any way to stop this constant scanning? It slows me down. If it isn't AVG scanning constantly, can't figure out what else it could be. Any help is appreciated.

Well, I believe you can turn off scheduled scanning in "options". Also, if you hear it scanning, you can access your system tray, find where it says "AVG running scans", hit enter on that, and go down to where it says "stop all scans", and hit enter again. It won't turn them off indefinitely, but it's a quick fix if you find a scan is slowing down your computer.

I actually have my scheduled scans and updates set for times when I know that I'll be sleeping so they won't disturb me. You might want to play around with that, or as hasbeen suggested, turn that feature off. Good luck.

That's why ya get avast! I still have version 4.8 of the software. Just do a search for avast 4.8, and it will find it, you'll just have to register it, but it's very light on resources.

Yeah, you can adjust scheduled scanning too. You probably do want to scan your computer periodically, just in case.

I agree with post 4 in recommending Avast. AVG is a resource hog whether it's scanning or not.

Also avast will work nicely on a laptop, that's how light it is on system resources.

Yep, it does. It works on my boyfriend's laptop like a charm. Microsoft Security Essentials is another one that's very accessible and light on resources. That's what I'm currently using.

I use both the MicroSoft thing and avg, but mine doesn't run constantly, though.

Look in your system tray to be sure, it may not be avg everytime.

not a wise idea to run more than one anti-virus thing at once, and MSE is considered an anti-virus program. they'll fight each other, and that's not pretty to see. I'd suggest MSE all the way, i use it now, and won't switch to anything else again as avast once on your machine, is a major pain in the neck to get off for what ever reason.

also Avast got fired because there was a trojon on my computer and it could not even corenteen it at all. I removed avast put AVG on my system, bought the paid vertion, I have had no trouble.

i don't like AVG anymore, they're not really helping us anymore and they don't catch near as much as others anymore

Avg seems fine to me, but in a year from now I'll have to switch because I want have avg so I'll have to remember these suggestions.

well, AVG is all I trust, has been so for years. i've always had the free version of it. never tried m s s e, and not sure if i'd do it or not. but I may try it out sometime if I ever have to reformat something again just to see. you may also wanna tell it to stop the scedualed scan as wel when you look for a v g running scans.

How do I make AVG run scans with Jaws? I can't seem to make it do that and I really need it too.

Great information. Thanks. I now know where to look to stop this scanning, but AVG is not in my system tray. How do I get it there?

In the tools settings go to options general then look for a setting that says sho in system try. Also its in the AVG folder on your start and all programs folder under AVG.

Hmm I guess at this time I can say, I will never use the free AVG, because of what I have faced and it did crap to stop it.
